Talk show host did 'Tallica's dirty work

Kelly Clarkson took a big swing at a Big 4 classic on her The Kelly Clarkson Show yesterday (May 6th), singing the hell out of Metallica's "Sad but True" for a televised audience.

The talk show host premiered her 'Tallica cover as part of the program's "Kellyoke" segment. It all starts off American Idol-like, with a moody piano re-interpretation of the Black Album stomper. Clarkson starts off soft, but hits a hella high vibrato before the full band lung into some suitably crunchy, daytime TV rockin'. Extra points for the guitarist bringing a James Hetfield-inspired Gibson Explorer into the performance.

You can check out Clarkson's salute to "Sad but True" up above.

If nothing else, the cover proves that Clarkson is open to fan suggestions. When actress Isla Fisher appeared on the program earlier this year, she encouraged Clarkson to belt out the banger, stating: "You should do 'Sad but True.' Your voice would be amazing."

Good call, Isla.
